![]() Renowned business author Seth Godin wrote a blog called "Taking it personally," which we resonated with here at Lighting Supply. Not to beat the Dr. Suess theme to death (last year we wrote and posted a Suess-styled lighting poem), but Seth's fault: he brought it up. He was visiting a children's book store and asked the clerk whether they had Yertle the Turtle in stock. He was shocked to have the clerk ask if he knew who the author was. (One assumes that anyone in children's books knows this was written by Dr. Suess.) Seth's point was that, if this store only hires people to take cash for books and not to know and care about their products and their customers' needs, this store is doomed. From our point of view, businesses only thrive when they help their customers thrive, which is why we do indeed take it personally when we have the opportunity to help you with your lighting needs. We want to know the answers to your questions, or to find those answers. We want to have the right product in stock, or be able to get it for you. We want to price it right, ship it quickly, and actually send what you order. Yeah, that last one is important: the lighting contractor on the job waiting for that part isn't thrilled when a substitute product is shipped, and we don't substitute without talking with you first! In short, we want to care enough to make it personal. It's why we've not just been around since 1983, but why we've made so many friends along the way. Find it easy to order on our website? (We hope so!) We're glad to have you place that order online. But we're also glad to have you call, get to know us, and call again in the future for familiar, friendly voices. So there you have it: we've just connected Seth Godin with commercial lighting. And you thought all lighting blogs would be the same.
